Thick Veneer

Thick veneer is the wood veneer sheet with thickness more than standard veneer thickness 0.4mm, 0.5mm, 0.55mm, or 0.6mm.

Usually, the common thick veneer can be 0.8mm, 1.0mm, 1.5mm, 2mm, 3mm, and 4mm.

And the most popular thick wood species are Oak, Walnut, Sapele, Teak, Cherry, Maple, and Bamboo.

Instead of natural wood, you can choose engineered wood for any thickness.

If the thickness is less than 2mm wood veneer, they are sliced cut. For 3mm or 4mm thick wood veneers, they are saw cut.

Most of the thick wood veneer is for furniture, engineered hardwood flooring, and thick veneered plywood.

6 Main Types of Thick Veneer and Related Products

Thick Natural Veneer

The thick natural veneer sheets are 1mm, 2mm, and 3mm wood veneers.

The most popular thick natural wood species are thick oak veneer, thick walnut veneer, and thick teak veneer.

For thick oak veneer, you can get 1mm oak veneer, 2mm oak veneer, and 3mm oak veneer sheets.

For thick walnut veneer, you can get 1mm thick walnut veneer, 2mm walnut veneer, and 3mm walnut veneer sheets.

For thick Burma teak veneer, you also can get 1mm thick teak veneer, 2mm teak veneer, and 3mm teak veneer sheets.

Most of those thick wood veneer sheets are slice cut for high-end furniture or plywood making.

Thick Engineered Veneer

If you want the thick veneers in big size with competitive prices, thick engineered veneer is a great option.

Engineered veneer has many dyed veneer colors for the alternative of exotic wood species.

But most importantly, engineered veneer standard sheet size can be 2500mm length, 640mm width.

By slicing cut, you can get 1mm thick veneer sheet, or 2mm thickness veneer sheet.

Thick engineered oak veneer and walnut veneer are the most popular species.

For some special designs, 0.7mm thickness rough sawn cut engineered veneer is a favorite for interior wall cladding decoration.

Thick Bamboo Veneer

In general, you can find 0.4mm, 0.5mm, or 0.6mm thick bamboo veneer or 0.25mm paper-thin bamboo veneer from the market.

But 1mm, 2mm, and 3mm thick bamboo veneer sheets are the special thickness veneer sheet. You may need to find it from China thick veneer suppliers.

In the North American market, people like to buy 1/8 bamboo veneer or 1/16 bamboo veneer sheets. But some mid-east projects are also looking for 3mm thick bamboo veneer from China.

For 3mm thick bamboo veneer, most are vertical bamboo in natural color or caramel color.

As you probably know, there is also another special bamboo veneer, that is the woven bamboo veneer. The final total thickness can be 1.0mm or 1.2mm.

Thick Veneer Edge Banding

Generally, veneer edge banding rolls have the standard thickness of 0.3mm, 0.45mm, or 0.5mm.

But special thick veneer edge banding is also in demand.

For example, 1mm thick edge banding, 2mm veneer edge banding, even 3mm wood edge banding.

In fact, those special thick wood edge banding rolls are the multilayer of 0.4mm standard natural veneers.

In other words, 2 layers could be 0.8mm thickness oak veneer edge banding, 3 layers could be 1.2mm thickness walnut veneer edge banding. So 4 layers can be 2mm thick veneer edge banding.

For some special burl veneer edge banding or end grain veneer edge banding rolls, the bottom layers could be a thick reconstituted veneer.

Thick Veneer Plywood

Thick veneer plywood means the plywood face veneer in special thick veneers.

Usually, the standard veneered plywood with 0.15mm to 0.2mm paper thin wood veneer.

Some high end furniture or cabinet need 0.4mm to 0.5mm natural wood veneer or engineered veneer as plywood face veneer.

Moreover, some joinery works need 3mm veneer, even 6mm veneer faced plywood or MDF.

Recently, the designer request 6mm thick oak veneer plywood to make surface veneer with a wave carving for interior fit out.

Whatever the market demand, Chinese veneered plywood factories always can make it.

Engineered Flooring Wear Layer

The engineered hardwood flooring top wear layer is the very important application of thick wood veneers.

The plywood gives a stable substrate base, but the top wear layer gives the solid wood looking.

6mm thick wood veneer, 5mm wood veneer, 4mm wood veneer, 3mm thickness veneer, 2mm wood veneer, even 1mm wood veneers all could be used for the engineered flooring wear layer.

In order to reduce total costs, some manufacturers will choose 0.4mm or 0.5mm thin veneer wood as the engineered flooring wear layer.

Oak engineered flooring and walnut engineered flooring are the most popular engineered floor.

Teak engineered flooring is the expensive wood flooring.
